Introducing Myself & My Experience

I’m Tim, a recent University graduate with a Bachelors in Computer Science, majoring in Cybersecurity.

I’ve always been fascinated with computers and technology, and it’s been my outlet since I was very young. Ever since I’ve started University (and a little while before that) I’ve been exploring networking, server administration and security.

I first started exploring servers in 2022 on a Dell R420, probably the loudest computer to have in your living room. It did however allow me to explore UNIX through the BSD based TrueNAS and virtualised deployments. From there, I eventually built my own server, on which I installed Proxmox. This led me to dive deeper into ZFS, basic networking principles such as firewalls and containerisation through docker.

You don’t always want to have to design and fabricate a tool or mechanism to solve a problem. When you do, it’s a journey like no other.

Instead of shopping for expensive parts or chasing off-the-shelf products that don’t quite meet your needs you can elect to create and manufacture a functional model all within the span of a day, if not hours. However, the knowledge and wisdom that is required to generate a great outcome is hard-won and never immediate.

I always enjoy explaining and discussing concepts to colleagues, and likewise learning about the experiences others have had. It often leads to a better understanding and appreciation of the industry and the dynamics that we all operate in and are a part of.

This site is used to share the results of my learning from various disciplines, ranging from my industry relevant experience to my roles in leadership & socially engaged positions. I hope that as a reader of this site (or prospective employer!) you are able to gain a better understanding of myself and the technologies and projects I use and undertake.
